Practice Areas
Business and Real Estate Litigation
We take a rational, problem-solving approach to business and real-estate related disputes. Focusing on economic outcomes, we help clients clarify their goals and understand their options early in the process, to determine whether an out-of-court resolution is possible. Where our client’s goals cannot be achieved without litigation, we fight aggressively, bringing to bear substantial experience in trial and appellate advocacy.
Real Estate Transactions
Our practice includes residential and commercial real estate closings and a host of common ancillary matters, including holding company formation, 1031 exchanges, leases/occupancy agreements, and joint venture structures. A particular area of focus is the representation of foreign investors in U.S. real estate. Since 2014, James has closed over $100M in New York real estate transactions for overseas investors in East Asia, South America and other parts of the world. Clients can rely on our knowledge and our network of contacts for dealing with offshore holding company structures, conventional and/or alternative financing arrangements, FIRPTA and certain other NYC-specific issues frequently encountered by real estate investors new to the United States.
Corporate & Small Business Matters
Our office serves as outside general counsel to a number of entrepreneurs and small businesses in New York City and beyond, addressing recurring corporate needs such as office leasing, entity formation and maintenance, operating/shareholder agreements, management/employment contracts, and vendor agreements. Many business clients find value in having routine access to legal advice without the expense of full-time in-house counsel.
